Description
The Mitsubishi A5M4 was the final and most advanced variant of the A5M series, the world’s first carrier-based monoplane fighter. Entering service with the Imperial Japanese Navy in the late 1930s, the A5M4 featured improved range with drop tanks and a more powerful Nakajima Kotobuki 41 engine. It retained the open cockpit and fixed landing gear of earlier models but offered excellent maneuverability and reliability. The A5M4 saw combat in the Second Sino-Japanese War and early World War II battles, before being gradually replaced by the more advanced A6M Zero.
