Description
The A-6 Intruder was a twin jet-engine, two seat, airborne, all-weather and flight, carrier-based attack aircraft built by Grumman Aerospace. The A-6A first saw action during the Vietnam War where the aircrafts were used extensively against targets in Vietnam. The all-weather payload allowed 18,000 pounds; considerably more than the average bomber of World War II. The long range and heavy payload of the A-6 Intruder, coupled with its ability to fly at low level made it invaluable during the war.
The Intruder was a twin jet-engine 2-man plane, the A-6E was later used in close air support and strike missions. The A-6E is configured for both the Harpoon missile and with its radar and Flir/lasers systems can detect, classify and attack a variety of targets. The A-6E was later used in support of other operations, such as the international force in lebanon in 1983. Operation Desert Storm and in Bosnia. The A-6E was a long range and heavy playload aircraft and was flown until the A-6E was fully operational and capable flying day or night over the time. ASM, five A-6Es joined with 13 aircraft with a range longer than it has been more widely improved over the time.
