Description
This work presents a comprehensive analysis of the Japanese aircraft industry and its products between the late thirties and the dawn of the nuclear age. A series of introductory chapters covers the history of the Japanese aircraft industry and of the air arms of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy, and their designation, camouflage, and marking systems.
The most significant types of aircraft operated by the Army and the Navy immediately before and during the Pacific War are described in the two main sections of this book, while numerous appendices provide information on less important Japanese military aircraft, foreign-designed aircraft operated by Japanese forces, aircraft carriers and tenders, aero-engines and aircraft armament.
The result of twelve years of painstaking research, this book was made possible by the co-operation of various US Government agencies which gave the author access to documents confiscated after the Japanese surrender.
This is a reprint of the revised and updated second edition.
