The BIII was both numerically and operationally the most important version of the Halifax and introduced the change from in-line Rolls-Royce Merlin engines to the Bristol Hercules radial engines. Production Halifaxes were finished in the Temperate Land Scheme for night bombers with anti-searchlight black undersurfaces and a disruptive pattern of dark earth and dark green uppersurfaces.
