Description
The Gloster Meteor was the only allied jet fighter to see combat service in the Second World War and was the first British jet aircraft to go into large scale production. The genius of Frank Whittle combined with a shoestring budget brought a simple approach to the problem of jet propulsion. The result was an extremely reliable engine, subsequent developments of which enabled the Meteor to break the world's absolute speed record in 1949. The Meteor also played a crucial role in aviation safety by its involvement in the development of the Martin-Baker ejector seat.
In a clear and straightforward way this book traces the various technical and design developments of one of the most famous British aircraft of the Second World War.
