Description

Aviation book
FLYING OFF COURSE provides a fascinating and topical insight into the working of the international airline industry. It examines key aspects of airline operations from an economist's point of view. This involves discussions of the characteristics of airline operations, the impact of recent U.S. deregulation on international air services, factors affecting airline costs, demand, airline pricing, charter economics and air freight.
The past 30 years have seen an unparalleled technological change in the airline industry, which has resulted in falling costs and fares which in turn have stimulated a rapid growth of demand for its services. Any other industry faced with such a high growth of demand and sheltered from the pressures of competition would expect to enjoy substantial profits. Yet the financial record of the major airlines has been poor.
( ... ) This comprehensive and up - to - date book will be of considerable value to those interested in or working within the airline industry. It provides and excellent grounding in the economics of international airlines and an insight into key management problems. In addition, this book should be essential reading for business studies, for post - graduate students of transport and for those preparing for Chartered Institute of Transport examinations.

Rigas Doganis was Professor and Head of Air Transport at Cranfield University from 1990 to 1997, and is now a Visiting Professor there. He was Chairman and C.E.O. of Olympic Airways, the Greek national airline. He has served as a Non - Executive Director of easyJet, for 9 years till the end of 2014, and of South African Airways.
