About the Author
Charles Harvard Gibbs-Smith is one of the world's leading aeronautical historians and has written many official works on the subject for the Science Museum in London. These include The Aeroplane: An Historical Survey, which was widely acclaimed as a classic; Sir George Cayley's Aeronautics; and many other works, particularly on the Wright brothers and early aeronautics.
Mr. Gibbs-Smith is a member of the History Group of the Royal Aeronautical Society and holds that society's only Honorary Companionship for history. He is also the only Englishman who has ever received the French Aero-Club Diplôme de Médaille, which was awarded for his official work on The Aeroplane.
