Description

" I settled for a very broad canvas and took Civil Aviation, with all its ramifications, as my background. Against this I chose a prominent human failing - negligence - and made this part of an equation which equalled disaster. I tried to create a number of people whose very existence made disaster inevitable ; and through this I tried to dismember the anatomy of an accident... Into the midst of a group of people who are ill - adjusted to each other comes a man who is direct and honest.

( ... ) Each has a reason to hide something ;  and when it comes to the point, the trouble bursts out because at last there is too much to hold down. It explodes, over those who tried to suppress it for so long, in the form of a helpless aircraft impotently trapped over London. "

À PROPOS DE CET AUTEUR
Christopher Hodder - Williams

John Christopher Glazebrook Hodder - Williams ( August 25th, 1926 - May 15th, 1995 ) was born in London ( England ). He was an individualist from his schooldays. His housemaster at Eton ( Berkshire, England ), John Herbert, recognised the futility of attempting to force him into the standard mould. Instead, he helped equip him with those qualities needed by a man who is determined to do things his way.

Christopher Hodder - Williams served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Signals in the Middle East ( 1944 -1948 ), then spent a year working for the publishers Hodder and Stoughton, where his father Ralph was chairman.

He worked on music and films in Kenya, before going to New York in 1952 to write music on Broadway. He co - wrote at least one song with Noël Coward ( 1899 - 1973 ). Returning to Britain he wrote up his New York experiences for the magazine Melody Maker, and spent several years playing piano in jazz bands and writing marvellously witty songs for theatre revues and for bands like the Steve Race Orchestra, sometimes for as many as three live shows a week on the new ITV channel.

Christopher Hodder - Williams was also a pilot, and three of his novels drew on this experience ; reviewers labelled him the natural successor to Nevil Shute ( 1899 - 1960 ). Here are some of his publications : The Cummings Report ( as James Brogan, 1957 ), The Higher They Fly ( 1963 ), Coward's Paradise ( 1974 ), Chromosome Game ( 1984 ).
