Description
With the US under threat of the Soviet "bomb" in the early 1950s, it was decided that an "Ultimate Interceptor" was needed to protect America's airspace. While the Convair design was chosen, it was clear this design would take far too long to come to production, so a less advanced version of the design was put into immediate production.
This was the F-102 Delta Dagger, which entered service in 1956, followed by the F-106 Delta Dart in 1959. The F-106 was the USAF's primary continental air defense interceptor during the 1960s and 1970s. This title follows the design and development of the USAF's "Ultimate Interceptor".
Includes, overall and in detail, the F-106A and F-106B variants, as well as the F-106 Advanced Proposals. Includes a 7-page modeling summary. Illustrated with 146 b/w and 30 color photos, 25 b/w line drawings. 72 pages.
