In 1956, John Harold Haynes ( 1938 - 2019 ), at the age of 16, wrote and published a book on building a " special " based on the Austin 7, and wrote two further books while performing national service in the R.A.F. J.H. Haynes & Co. Limited was founded on May 18th, 1960. The first manual actually entitled Haynes Owners Workshop Manual, for the Austin - Healey Sprite, was published in 1965. in 1972, the Group’s headquarters were established in Sparkford ( Somerset, England ). Two years later, the U.S. Company was formed. During the 1990's, foreign companies were formed in both France ( Éditions Haynes, 1993, liquidated in 2006 ) and Sweden ( Haynes Nordiska, 1996, closed in 2016 ). The next year, the U.S. operation established a branch in Australia. Haynes books and manuals are published in 15 languages : English ( including British, American and Australian variants ), French, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese, German, Czech, Finnish, Polish, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Greek, Danish, Spanish ( including Latino - American Spanish versions ) and Russian.
