Description
This exquisitely detailed 1:250 scale die-cast model represents the iconic Junkers Ju-52/3mge in Swiss Air Transport livery. Manufactured by Schabak, a renowned German producer of high-quality metal aircraft models, this piece features authentic corrugated metal surface texturing that replicates the distinctive ribbed aluminum skin of the original aircraft. The model showcases three radial engines, fixed landing gear with detailed struts, and accurate Swiss markings including the prominent red crosses on wings and tail. The metallic silver finish with red accent panels captures the classic interwar commercial aviation aesthetic. With registration markings visible on the fuselage, this model represents a specific aircraft from Switzerland's pioneering aviation era.
The Junkers Ju-52/3mge, affectionately known as "Tante Ju" (Auntie Ju), was a legendary three-engine transport aircraft that first flew in 1932. Originally designed by Hugo Junkers in Germany, it became one of the most successful commercial and military transport aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s. The Swiss Air Transport variant could carry 17 passengers and had a cruise speed of 295 km/h with a range of 1,290 km. With a wingspan of 29.25 meters and length of 18.90 meters, the Ju-52 could reach a maximum altitude of 5,500 meters. Its robust construction, reliable BMW radial engines, and distinctive corrugated duralumin skin made it ideal for operations in mountainous Swiss terrain. Many examples remained in service well into the post-war era, and several are still flying today as vintage aircraft.
🇨🇭 About the Airline
Swiss Air Transport (Swissair) was Switzerland's national airline, founded in 1931 through the merger of Ad Astra Aero and Balair. The Ju-52 formed the backbone of Swissair's early fleet, pioneering routes across the Alps and connecting Switzerland to major European cities. Known for precision, reliability, and Swiss engineering excellence, Swissair became one of Europe's most respected carriers before its eventual closure in 2002.
