Description

This Herpa Wings Club limited edition model represents a Pan Am Express ATR-42 in the classic white livery with bold blue 'PAN AM' titles across the fuselage. Released as item 508056 with registration N42056, this 1:500 scale model was limited to just 1200 pieces in 2004. The model features accurate markings including the iconic Pan Am globe logo on the tail, 'EXPRESS' titles, and ATR-42 designation. Crafted with precision die-cast metal construction, it captures the distinctive high-wing, T-tail configuration of this popular regional turboprop. Photo copyright Lars Söderström.

The ATR-42 is a twin-turboprop short-haul regional airliner developed jointly by French Aérospatiale and Italian Aeritalia (now Leonardo). First flown in 1984, it became one of the world's best-selling regional aircraft thanks to its fuel efficiency, reliability, and ability to operate from shorter runways. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120 engines driving six-blade propellers, the ATR-42 typically seats 42-50 passengers and excels on routes of 500-1000 nautical miles. The aircraft's dimensions include a wingspan of 24.57 m, length of 22.67 m, and height of 7.60 m, making it ideal for regional connectivity and feeder services to larger hubs.

🇺🇸 About the Airline
Pan Am Express was a regional carrier brand operated by various partner airlines on behalf of Pan American World Airways during the 1980s and 1990s. These express services connected smaller communities to Pan Am's major hubs, extending the legendary airline's reach into regional markets. Though Pan Am ceased operations in 1991, the Express brand continued briefly under subsequent ownership, making models like this ATR-42 historically significant representations of the airline's final chapter.
