Description
This exquisite Herpa Wings 1:500 scale die-cast model recreates Pan Am's iconic Boeing 747SP 'Clipper Mayflower' in stunning detail. Part of Herpa's prestigious 'Yesterday' series, this model features the classic Pan Am livery with the signature blue globe logo on the tail, white fuselage with blue cheatline, and authentic 'Clipper Mayflower' titling. The model includes accurate registration markings and comes pre-assembled with a display stand. Crafted with precision metal construction and detailed printing, this collectible represents one of aviation's most legendary carriers during the golden age of flight.
The Boeing 747SP (Special Performance) was a shortened variant of the iconic 747, designed for ultra-long-range routes with reduced passenger capacity. First introduced in 1976, the 747SP could fly up to 6,650 nautical miles non-stop, making it ideal for Pan Am's transoceanic and polar routes. With a length of 56.30 meters, wingspan of 59.60 meters, and height of 20.00 meters, the SP was 14.35 meters shorter than the standard 747 but retained the distinctive hump. Only 45 units were built, making it one of the rarest 747 variants. Pan Am operated several 747SPs on prestigious routes like New York to Tokyo and around-the-world services, cementing the aircraft's place in aviation history.
