The McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10ER Flying Eye Hospital, registration N220AU, served as a mobile teaching hospital dedicated to fighting blindness worldwide. This extended range variant of the DC-10-10 was specifically modified to carry medical equipment, operating rooms, and training facilities. Powered by three General Electric CF6-6D1A engines, the aircraft carried a mission crew of 4 doctors, 6 nurses, 2 anesthesiologists, 2 biomedical engineers, 2 audiovisual specialists, and 4 staff administrators.
