Description
“Uncommon military livery, ideal for aviation or Cold War collectors.”
This highly detailed die-cast model aircraft is manufactured by Herpa at 1:500 scale, representing an Ilyushin IL-18 in the livery of the Nationale Volksarmee / Luftstreitkräfte (East German Air Force). The model features authentic markings including the distinctive East German national insignia with hammer and compass on the tail fin and wings. The silver and blue color scheme is faithfully reproduced, with fine details including window lines, panel lines, and correctly positioned four-engine turboprop configuration. Registration STS-29 (also marked as Reg. 493) is clearly displayed on this collectible model.
The Ilyushin IL-18 was a Soviet turboprop airliner that first flew in 1957 and became one of the most successful Soviet aircraft designs of its era. Used extensively by both civilian airlines and military air forces throughout the Eastern Bloc, the IL-18 featured four Ivchenko AI-20 turboprop engines and could carry up to 120 passengers. The East German Luftstreitkräfte operated several IL-18 aircraft for VIP transport and special missions during the Cold War period. The aircraft had a wingspan of approximately 37.4 meters, a length of 35.9 meters, and a height of 10.17 meters in its full-size configuration.
