The Airbus A310-200 was a medium to long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner that served as a shortened derivative of the A300. With original dimensions of 43.90m wingspan, 46.66m length, and 15.80m height, the A310 was designed for routes that didn't require the capacity of larger aircraft. Hapag-Lloyd, originally a German charter and leisure airline, operated the A310-200 on various European and intercontinental routes during its service life, making it an important part of German aviation history.
Hapag-Lloyd Flug (1972–2007)
Hapag-Lloyd established its own airline, Hapag-Lloyd Flug (IATA code: HF), in 1972 to transport cruise passengers from Germany to their ports of call.
Expansion: It grew into a major leisure airline, operating charter flights to the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.
The Airbus A310: The airline began operating A310s in the late 1980s, including both the -200 and longer-range -300 variants, which allowed for transatlantic charter flights.
Rebranding and End: In 2002, following acquisition by TUI AG, the airline's classic orange and blue livery was replaced with the light blue "TUI smile" branding. By 2007, it was merged with Hapag-Lloyd Express to become TUIfly.
