Description
This exceptional 1:400 scale die-cast model represents an EL AL Bristol Britannia in the airline's classic livery from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Produced by Gemini Jets as part of their collector-focused line, this model features highly detailed printed graphics including the distinctive blue cheatline, Hebrew and English 'ELAL' titling, and the airline's emblem on the tail. The model includes realistic metal landing gear, rolling rubber tires, and finely detailed four-blade propellers on each of the four engines. The polished natural metal finish on the lower fuselage authentically recreates the appearance of these elegant turboprop airliners.
The Bristol Britannia was a British-built turboprop airliner that entered service in the mid-1950s, earning the nickname 'The Whispering Giant' for its quiet operation and impressive size. EL AL operated the Britannia on long-haul routes, particularly to Europe and Africa, during a pivotal period in the airline's expansion. The aircraft featured four Bristol Proteus turboprop engines and could carry approximately 90-130 passengers depending on configuration. The Britannia represented a significant technological advancement with its pressurized cabin and long-range capabilities, though it was soon eclipsed by the jet age.
