Description

This meticulously crafted Herpa miniature model represents a Douglas DC-9-10 in its original Douglas Aircraft Company livery. Part of The Boeing Milestone Series, this officially licensed product celebrates the heritage of powered flight with exceptional attention to detail. The model features the distinctive white fuselage with red and blue cheatlines, complete with 'DOUGLAS DC-9' titles and registration N9DC. The 1:500 scale allows collectors to appreciate the sleek lines and rear-mounted engine configuration that made the DC-9 such an iconic aircraft of the jet age.

The Douglas DC-9 made its first flight on February 25, 1965, and revolutionized short-to-medium-haul air travel. McDonnell Douglas built 976 DC-9s in eight variations, including 47 aircraft for military customers. Initially designed to hold 90 passengers, the fuselage was lengthened to accommodate more people as the series evolved. The DC-9-10 was the original variant, featuring a compact design perfect for smaller airports and regional routes. The aircraft's twin rear-mounted Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines and T-tail configuration became signature design elements that influenced subsequent aircraft development. The DC-9-80 was later redesignated the MD-80, with 1,159 MD-80s built from 1979 to 1999. Military versions included the C-9A Nightingale, the C-9B Skytrain II, and VC-9C VIP government executive transports.
