Description
This Herpa miniature model faithfully reproduces an American Airlines Boeing 747SP in the classic polished aluminum livery with red and blue cheatlines. Part of Herpa's limited edition series, this 1:500 scale diecast features precise tampo-printed markings, authentic AA tail logo, and finely molded details including landing gear and engine nacelles. The model captures the distinctive shortened fuselage profile that made the 747SP unique among the 747 family. Presented in its original collector's box with registration details, this piece represents excellent German craftsmanship from Herpa's premium aviation miniatures range.
The Boeing 747SP (Special Performance) was a modified version of the 747 designed for ultra-long-range operations. With a fuselage shortened by 14.35 meters compared to the standard 747-100, the SP variant could fly farther with fewer passengers, making it ideal for long transoceanic routes with lower demand. American Airlines operated several 747SPs during the 1980s and 1990s on routes requiring extended range capabilities. The aircraft measures 56.30 m in length with a wingspan of 59.60 m and stands 20.00 m tall. This particular livery represents American's classic bare metal scheme that became iconic during the jet age.
