Description
This exquisite 1:600 scale die-cast model by Schabak captures the iconic Boeing 747-SP in American Airlines' classic polished metal livery. The model features the distinctive shortened fuselage of the SP variant, complete with the airline's traditional red, white, and blue cheatline running along the fuselage. The AA logo is prominently displayed on the tail, while 'American' titling adorns the forward fuselage. Made in Germany by Schabak, this model showcases excellent attention to detail with accurately molded engines, landing gear, and aerodynamic surfaces. The polished aluminum finish perfectly replicates the bare metal appearance that was a hallmark of American Airlines' fleet during this era.
The Boeing 747-SP (Special Performance) was a modified version of the original 747, featuring a shortened fuselage that reduced passenger capacity but significantly increased range and operational flexibility. Designed for ultra-long-haul routes, the 747-SP could fly further than any other commercial airliner of its time, making it ideal for non-stop transoceanic services. American Airlines operated the 747-SP variant to serve long-distance routes that required extended range capabilities. At 1:600 scale, this model represents an aircraft that measured approximately 56.3 meters in length with a wingspan of 59.6 meters in real life, making it one of the most capable long-range airliners of the 1970s and 1980s.
