Description
This Schabak 1:600 scale diecast model faithfully reproduces an American Airlines Boeing 720 in its classic bare metal livery with distinctive red, white and blue cheatline. The model features the airline's eagle logo on the tail and 'American Airlines' titling along the fuselage. Manufactured in Germany, this detailed miniature captures the elegant proportions of the four-engined narrow-body jet that served American Airlines during the jet age transition period.
The Boeing 720 was a modified version of the 707, designed for shorter routes with improved performance from shorter runways. First flown in 1959, it featured a lighter structure, modified wing leading edges, and more powerful engines than its 707 predecessor. The aircraft measured 136 ft 9 in in length with a wingspan of 130 ft 10 in and a height of 41 ft 7 in. American Airlines operated the Boeing 720 on domestic routes during the 1960s and early 1970s, using it to modernize their fleet and provide jet service to medium-sized markets. At 1:600 scale, this model measures approximately 5.8 cm in length with a wingspan of about 5.5 cm.
