Description
This Herpa Wings 1:500 scale die-cast model represents an Air Koryo Ilyushin IL-62, registration P-885. The model features accurate detailing of the classic Soviet-era narrow-body jet airliner in Air Koryo's distinctive white and red livery. The IL-62's characteristic rear-mounted quad engine configuration and T-tail design are faithfully reproduced in this miniature. This collectible piece captures the essence of one of the world's most unique airlines, operating one of aviation's most iconic long-range airliners. The model includes fine details such as printed windows, airline titles, and registration markings. The Ilyushin IL-62 is a Soviet long-range narrow-body jetliner conceived in the late 1950s. As one of the largest aircraft to emerge from the USSR, it features four turbofan engines mounted in pairs on pylons beneath a T-tail, similar to the British Vickers VC10. The IL-62 entered service in 1967 and became a workhorse for Aeroflot and other Soviet-aligned carriers. With a wingspan of 43.20 m, length of 53.12 m, and height of 12.35 m, this aircraft could carry up to 186 passengers on intercontinental routes. Air Koryo continues to operate this classic type, making it one of the few airlines still flying the IL-62 in regular service.
🇰🇵 About the Airline
Air Koryo is the state-owned national flag carrier of North Korea, based in Pyongyang. Founded in 1955 as SOKAO (Soviet-Korean Aviation Cooperation), it was renamed Air Koryo in 1992. The airline operates a fleet that includes vintage Soviet-era aircraft such as the Ilyushin IL-62 and Tupolev Tu-154. Air Koryo is notable for being one of only two airlines to receive a one-star rating from Skytrax, the lowest possible rating. Due to international sanctions and limited international routes, Air Koryo primarily operates domestic flights and a handful of routes to China and Russia. Its continued operation of classic Soviet aircraft makes it highly sought after by aviation enthusiasts and die-cast collectors.
