Description
This exquisite Herpa miniature model recreates the iconic Lockheed Super Constellation in the classic Air Ceylon livery. This limited edition collectible features the elegant white fuselage with distinctive red and yellow cheatlines, capturing the golden age of propeller-driven aviation. The model showcases remarkable attention to detail including the aircraft's triple-tail configuration, four radial engines with spinning propellers, and authentic Air Ceylon markings. Article number 552134, this piece represents a significant chapter in Sri Lankan aviation history.
The Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation, nicknamed 'Mahadevi' by Air Ceylon, was leased from KLM in 1956 and operated international flights as part of the airline's prestigious 'Sapphire Service' with Amsterdam as a key destination. This four-engine propeller aircraft featured impressive dimensions with a wingspan of 37.70m, length of 35.40m, and height of 7.54m. In 1960, the Super Constellation was replaced by the more modern Lockheed Electra, marking the evolution of Air Ceylon's fleet modernization program.
Air Ceylon was the state-owned flag carrier of Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon), operating from 1947 to 1979. It holds a legendary reputation in aviation history for maintaining a fatality-free record throughout its 32 years of service.
