This reference book documents the special decorations and liveries applied to French military aircraft from 1972 to 1999. Organized chronologically, it features numerous photographs of commemorative schemes and distinctive markings used for special events and anniversaries.
Why this book?
‘Decoration of the defense aircraft, 1972-1999’: regularly, the armée de l’Air, French naval aviation, French Army aviation and other components of the defense forces celebrate special events or anniversaries. Active aircraft receive a special decoration on such occasions. These are the aircraft we are presenting in this book.
This means that short lived tags, pirate decorations, pin ups, other nose arts and experimental decorations are not part of this work. In the same idea, display aircraft which have been treated elsewhere are not included in these pages.
Everything in this book has been made by Delta Reflex members, from the original idea to the final layout, through the research work and caption writing. Our members have opened their slide boxes to pick up from their collections most of the photos that you will see.
Over the period considered, taking shots of military aircraft was not as usual as nowadays, hence the lesser quality of some rare documents. But at least, we have tried to be as exhaustive as possible.
