Description
De Havilland's Mosquito is a legendary aeroplane. Conceived in 1938 as a high-speed unarmed bomber, its adaptability saw it used as a night fighter, bomber, photo-reconnaissance aircraft, high-speed courier, target marker, anti-shipping strike aircraft, and target tug. Built mainly from wood, using experience gained during the manufacture of the Albatross airliner, the Mosquito was a masterpiece. It was fast, rugged, capable of taking enormous punishment, and yet was easily repaired, and its low loss rate confirmed predictions that speed, not firepower, was the best defense.
This book tells the story of the aircraft's design and development, its operational use with both the RAF and USAAF, and its production in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Appendices list the many variants, production totals, night fighter kills, and much more. Fully illustrated throughout with many rare and previously unpublished photographs, De Havilland Mosquito is a fine record of a superb aeroplane.
