Description
The first chapter deals with people. People are mentioned and named in all chapters in this book – people make history, and people pioneered the air in the golden years of aviation on machines with two wings braced by wire, and engines lubricated with castor oil. Next, Travel Air, WACO, and Beechcraft are presented in some detail. In addition, we have included a final section in the rear of the book covering the major biplane types produced in the period from the end of World War One to the present day (1963). Robert Tharp (R.T.) Smith (February 23, 1918 – August 21, 1995) was a World War II fighter pilot and ace, credited with 8.7, 8.9 or 9 Japanese aircraft while fighting with the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers).
