Description
VOLUME ONE
(Covering manufacturers A.B.C. to Dudley Watt)
Commemorating the fortieth anniversary of British civil aviation, this is one of the two volumes forming the first complete reference work on all aircraft ever used for civil purposes under British ownership. Their official register, carefully preserved, permits of no omissions from this book, in which the aircraft, not necessarily of British design, range from ultra-light single-seaters to heavy transport and are discussed alphabetically by manufacturers and thence in strict order of designation.
This first volume includes over 500 photographs, many unique and previously unpublished.
The main body of the work, dealing with 110 important types, includes description, development and operational histories and three-view drawings, together with specifications and photographs of all variants. Appendices, similarly arranged, illustrate and describe 141 civil types built only in prototype form or in small numbers, and forty-five military types adapted to civilian use on a small scale or flown under civil marks for demonstration or delivery. Completeness of photographic coverage is such that of the fifteen types described but not illustrated, construction of nine was abandoned and two have yet to fly. A final appendix gives the most complete documentation yet published on individual aircraft registrations, names, dates of issue of C. of A. and disposal.
