Description
This manual was prepared as the home study phase of the rate training course for Aviation Electrician's Mates of the Naval Air Reserve.
Since, as a reservist, you do not have ready access to naval schools, the manual is designed to give you a theoretical background of the same level as that of your regular Navy counterpart.
Together with your laboratory work, it will prepare you to be an efficient aviation electrician's mate and to carry out the responsibilities of that rating. An aviation electrician's mate is an important member of the team of technicians which keeps naval aviation the most potent force of its kind in the world. Carrying such responsibility, he must be something of an expert in a number of different fields. Not only must he understand thoroughly the basic principles of electricity and its application to aircraft equipment, but he must be familiar also with other related areas as well, particularly aircraft instruments. This manual covers these subjects in detail and makes it possible to devote a greater part of each drill period to practical work. Your instructor will assign specific areas as home study lessons. He will then assume that you have studied these assignments carefully and will not take valuable time to cover the same information again. Instead, he will expand on the information in this manual. Still, never hesitate to ask specific questions about any part of the material which is not clear to you. In fact, be constantly alert to clear up any doubts you may have about any phase of the work. Only in that way will you gain the full knowledge you will need to do your job well. With that kind of attitude, with conscientious study, and with careful practical work, you will be able to make your own contribution to naval aviation...
