Description
While in spaceflight, the astronauts took color photographs of great are as the earth's surface. These provide an immense range of scientific and academic information; some of it is entirely new, much of it is corroborative, all of it is dramatic in the extreme, focusing interest again on Earth and its mysteries. Only a few of these magnificent photographs have been reproduced for public examination.
Upon application from Rand McNally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration opened its files for examination and publication. A Ran McNally representative spent months going through these records, picking and choosing the material included in AROUND THE WORLD. The effort was to gather here those pictures which would permit each reader the privileges of viewing Earth in all its grandeur, its fantastic attraction for mortals, its loveliness, its variety, its isolation, its cruelty, its mystery, as the astronauts were able to do. We believe that the goal has been achieved. Adventure into space with us, see Mother Earth through the eyes of an astronaut.
Authentic Gemini astronaut photographs.
