Description
Aeromantics is an exceptional aviation photography book by renowned German aviation photographer Dietmar Plath, published in 1994 by AJ-Verlag, Otterstedt, Germany.
Produced as a strictly limited edition of just 1,500 individually numbered copies, this impressive photographic volume captures the beauty, atmosphere and fascination of aviation across the world.
Since beginning his aviation photography career in 1978, Dietmar Plath has travelled to more than 70 countries in search of remarkable aircraft and extraordinary photographic settings. His work brings together aviation, travel and landscape photography, presenting aircraft in unusual environments, dramatic lighting and striking compositions.
Among the remarkable aviation experiences featured in the author's career are flights aboard a Douglas DC-3 during a safari in Kenya, a Concorde crossing the Atlantic at Mach 2, a Transall on a humanitarian mission to Ethiopia, a nonstop flight from Toulouse to Australia aboard the first Airbus A340 prototype, and flights in German Luftwaffe jet fighters over the North Sea.
His photographic journeys have taken him from Moscow, Atlanta and Hong Kong to the highlands of Papua New Guinea, the glaciers of Iceland and the vast landscapes of China.
Plath's extraordinary career also included accompanying King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV of Tonga and Pope John Paul II on official flights. In October 1993, he survived an aircraft crash in the jungle of French Guiana and was subsequently rescued by the French Air Force.
Rather than presenting aircraft solely as technical machines, Aeromantics celebrates the visual and emotional appeal of flight, combining aviation subjects with exceptional surroundings and atmospheric photographic compositions.
A distinctive collector's book, particularly appealing to enthusiasts of aviation photography, civil and military aircraft, and the history of international aviation.
