Description
The authors, both members of the Air Aces Research Group of Air Britain, have produced this book as the result of many years of research. Aces High includes over 1,000 brief biographies of the operational careers of pilots who shot down five or more enemy aircraft during World War II, and who served in the RAF, RAAF, RCAF, RNZAF, SAAF, and the FAA, including not only Commonwealth personnel, but also Americans, Belgians, Czechs, Danes, Dutchmen, Frenchmen, Greeks, Icelanders, Irish, Norwegians, and Poles.
The book contains details of the aircraft they flew, and the colours and markings which were painted on these. There is a description of all fighter operations throughout the war in which they took part, and a special section dealing with those pilots who flew against the V-1s. Also included are full lists of scores, lists of Wing Leaders who were also aces, and 16 pages of sideview drawings of individual pilots’ aircraft, prepared by Air Britain artist Bruce Rigelsford. The whole work is profusely illustrated with 128 photographs of pilots and aircraft.
Wg. Cdr. R. R. Stanford Tuck, DSO, DFC and 2 Bars, a famous wartime fighter pilot, has written a foreword to the book, and says, “I have no hesitation in stating that this book is a very fine reference and a must for all those who served in, or were connected with, the Royal Air Force.”
