Description

A Night of Bright Stars is the story of a man and his dream. It is about Alberto Santos - Dumont who, in the early years of our century*, pioneered in making Everyman's dream of flight a reality ; and about the triumphs and tragedies his discoveries brought in their wake.

( ... ) A foreigner, a Brazilian, Santos - Dumont is thrust by the force of his ideas and personality into the merciless glare of publicity, into an arena where jackals and vultures wait to share the pickings, and into a future no one imagined to be so horribly imminent and with which he cannot cope alone.

( ... ) In this, his 23rd novel, the author makes the most of a theme that it at once new and timeless. With all the excitement of the invention of flight - so taken for granted today that the struggles involved are forgotten - he couples questions that still concern all of us.
