1979 Calendar Aviation Week & Space Technology
This calendar inaugurates an Aviation Week & Space Technology program to portray the history of aerospace through distinctive, original paintings by internationally known artists. From a technical standpoint, the U.S. was well ahead of the world for most of the period 1903-1913 covered in the 1979 calendar. But much of the work of the Wright brothers was clone in remote areas, and the disinterest of the U.S. Army in an airplane caused them to interrupt their flying for two and one-half years. It was not until the French invited the Wright brothers to demonstrate their Flyer that interest in the U.S. mushroomed.
Paul Lengellé, the famous French aviation artist and learned historian of the early years of powered flight, was again commissioned by Aviation Week & Space Technology to execute the twelve originals paintings in this inaugural Art History of Aerospace Calendar.
