INTRODUDUCTION
The aim of the museum is to preserve an important part of Britain's national aviation heritage and to display it for future generations. At Cosford we have collections of artifacts unique in the world.
The Warplane collection includes British, German, American, Japanese and Argentinian aircraft, all with an important place in the development of military aviation.
Cosford's early German experimental missiles are unique. The Museum's Missile Gallery charts the history of this type of weapon from early concrete and wooden examples to today's state of the art technology.
The Transport collection is home to many huge retired British Airways airliners and Royal Air Force transport aircraft, which relate the fascinating story of passenger and freight-carrying by air.
The jewel in the Museum's inventory is undoubtedly the Research and Development collection featuring some of the World's most exotic aircraft; a very special collection indeed. There are over fifty aero engines on display here too, and a small collection of vehicles relating to aviation history.
ABOUT THE ROYAL AIR FORCE MUSEUM COSFORD
The Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford houses one of the largest aviation collections in the United Kingdom. Over 80 historic aircraft are displayed in three fully heated wartime hangars on an active airfield. The collection spans nearly 90 years of aviation history from the first crossing of the Channel in 1909 and the first civil transport flight in August 1919, to Polaris, lately Britain's nuclear deterrent.
The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford provides a truly unique location for important business events. Conventions, conferences, exhibitions, product launches, meetings for special-interest groups, outdoor and activity-based corporate events and even private functions can be catered for within one of Britain's premier aviation heritage centres.
