Powered by two radial engines driving large contra rotating propellers mounted at the wingtips the aircraft was designed to achieve exceptional lift and maneuverability. Its unique shape reduced drag while allowing operations from short carrier decks. Although wind tunnel tests and a prototype showed promising results the project was ultimately cancelled in 1947 as jet aircraft rapidly made piston powered designs obsolete.
