Introduced in 1943, the P-40N featured weight-reduction measures, including a lighter structure and simplified equipment, which improved climb rate and handling compared to earlier variants. It was powered by the Allison V-1710 engine and armed with six .50 caliber machine guns in the wings, giving it solid firepower for air combat and ground attack. While it could not match newer high-altitude fighters, the P-40N proved rugged, reliable, and easy to maintain.
