Powered by a Pratt \u0026amp; Whitney R-1830 radial engine and equipped with a turbo-supercharger, it offered good high-altitude performance for its time. The aircraft featured sleek lines, sturdy construction, and four .50-caliber machine guns. Although fast and well-armed, the P-43 suffered from limited armor, no self-sealing fuel tanks, and modest maneuverability, making it unsuitable for frontline combat. Most were delivered to China under Lend-Lease, where they served in reconnaissance and interception roles.
