After intensive design work, the Nakajima Aircraft Co. produced the C6N1 'Saiun' in January of 1944. The 'Saiun' was powered by a 2,000 hp Nakajima NK9K-L 'Homare' engine. Crewed by three men, it had no armament except for one flexible 13mm machine gun in the rear. The 'Saiun' was the fastest carrier plane of WW2, able to cruise at 360 mph.
