Powered by the innovative Rolls-Royce Pegasus turbofan engine with rotating exhaust nozzles, the Harrier GR.1 could take off vertically or perform short rolling takeoffs with heavy weapon loads. It was armed with twin 30 mm ADEN cannons and could carry bombs, rockets, and missiles for close air support.
