The A-8 was produced by at least eight different manufacturers. These included Arado, AGO, Fieseler and Mimetall. During production, the A-8 incorporated improvements developed for the Tank Ta 152 fighter. The A-8 was used by both day and night fighter units. From the spring of 1944, Sturmböcke heavily armored versions of the A-8 were used as bomber destroyers.
