Rapid development followed: the A-2 and A-3 improved power and armament, while mass production in 1942 pushed output past 1,800 aircraft. Later variants from the A-4 to A-9 added stronger wings, heavier guns, and power-boosting systems, with the A-8 becoming the most produced. Specialized F and G versions served as fighter-bombers. The inline-engined Fw 190D arrived in 1944, giving the design new life.
