Featuring all-metal construction, retractable landing gear, and advanced aerodynamics, the Bf 109 was among the most modern fighters of its era. Entering service with the DB 601 engine, it fought in the Spanish Civil War, Poland, France, the Battle of Britain, and on the Eastern Front. Constantly improved through variants such as the Bf 109F and G, it remained competitive throughout the war. More than 33,000 were built, making it one of history’s most-produced fighters.
