Designed by Erich Bachem, it featured vertical takeoff and a rocket engine, the Walter HWK109-509A, producing 1,500 kg of thrust. Made mostly of wood, the Natter launched vertically, climbed rapidly, then leveled off to fire 24 unguided 73 mm rockets at bomber formations. After attack, the pilot ejected by parachute while the rear section fell separately. Himmler’s support fast-tracked development, with the first launch on December 22, 1944. Though innovative, the program came too late and saw only limited testing before the war ended.

More to read about the KIT here, thanks to scalemates, a Belgian Scale modeling database

https://aviation.brussels/products/maquette-a-monter-ba-349a-natter-w-hwk-109-509-engine-and-crew-dml-n-5525-1-48-like-new-inside-unopened
