This twin-engine, low-wing monoplane first flew in January 1937 and could carry up to eight passengers. Its excellent performance quickly attracted the attention of the U.S. Army Air Forces and Navy, which adopted it for training purposes. In 1941, as the U.S. sought an affordable aircraft for navigator and bombardier training, Beech produced the improved C18S model. The military trainer versions were designated AT-7C Navigator by the Army and SNB-2C by the Navy. By 1944, 549 AT-7Cs and 373 SNB-2Cs had been built.
