Description
The A-6 Intruder was a twin-engine, mid-wing attack aircraft built by Grumman Aerospace Corporation. The A-6 was designed to be a carrier-based, all-weather, low-altitude attack plane, with versions designed for specific missions such as aerial tanking and electronic warfare. The A-6A was the initial all-weather attack version and the A-6E was an improved version with upgraded electronics and a revised cockpit. Both versions saw extensive combat use, particularly during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm in 1991. The last Intruders were retired from U.S. Navy service in 1997.
