Description

The Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik is perhaps the most famous aircraft in the history of Russian aviation. During World War 2, this the Soviets' rugged ground attack aircraft was arguably most effective weapon.

Protected by its heavy armour, the lowflying aircraft was incredibly difficult to shoot down and its powerful array of weaponry included cannon, machine guns, rockets and special HEAT anti-tank bombs. It was capable of penetrating the armour of every German tank in the field at the time, including the Panther and Tiger, as well as reaping destruction among the ranks of enemy infantry.

The II-2 was so successful that the design was produced in greater numbers than any other military aircraft in history, with over 40,000 being built between 1941 and 1945.

In this impressive new book, accomplished aviation author Yefim Gordon applies the successful Famous Russian Aircraft series formula to the mainstay of this Soviet air forces in World War 2, making the most comprehensive book available on the subject.

With detailed coverage of both its development and service career and an unmatchable wealth of illustrations, this is the perfect volume for anyone wishing to learn more about this important warplane. Aviation modellers will delight in the vast amount of previously unpublished photographs and unique colour profiles illustrating the variations in the aircraft such as modifications from dual to single seater and rear gunner as well as images of rare unit insignia. This is one not to be missed!

À PROPOS DE CET EDITEUR
Ian Allan Publishing
Ian Allan Publishing was founded by Ian Allan ( 1922 - 2015 ) in 1942. Working then in the Public Relations Department for the Southern Railway at Waterloo Station ( London Borough of Lambeth, London, England ), he decided he could deal with many of the requests he received about rolling stock by collecting the information into a book. The result was his first book : ABC of Southern Locomotives. This proved to be a success, contributing to the emergence of trainspotting as a popular hobby in the United Kingdom, and leading to the formation of the company. Ian Allan Publishing has grown from a small producer of books for train enthusiasts and spotters to a large transport publisher. Each year it publishes books covering subjects such as military and civil aviation, naval and maritime topics, buses, trams, trolleybuses and steam railways, including history, preservation and modern operations. The headquarters is at the western end of Shepperton Railway Station ( Surrey, England ). At the end of 2016, the company announced that they were withdrawing from railway publishing. Crécy Publishing acquired these titles, including the Oxford and abc imprints, but would no longer publish these under the Ian Allan name. ( source : Wikipedia )
