Description

German Bombers, Volume Two, is devoted to the second generation of German bombers : the Dornier Do 17, the Heinkel He 177, the Junkers Ju 188, the Arado Ar 234 and the ’ Mistletoe ’ pick - a - back aircraft. Each of the types described in these pages incorporated ingenious design features and, when the sometimes daunting teething troubles had been overcome, was at least as good as its enemy equivalent. None of the types described here can be labelled as ’ great ’, for none of them accomplished great things. Bit greatness and quality are not necessarily linked, and as the successors of the bombers which were the terror of Europe in the early war years these aircraft have a well - deserved place in aviation history.

Alfred Price ( ? - January 29th, 2017 ) was a British popular author on aviation and related topics. He served in the Royal Air Force ( R.A.F. ) as an aircrew officer. Alfred Price received his PhD in history from Loughborough University. Some of his books were as follows : Pictorial History of the Luftwaffe 1933 - 1945 ( 1969 ), Battle of Britain 18th August 1940 : The Hardest Day ( 1979 ), The Last Year of the Luftwaffe, May 1944 to May 1945 ( 1993 ) and Targeting the Reich : Allied Photographic Reconnaissance Over Europe, 1939 - 1945 ( 2003 ). Alfred Price was named a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
