The British named all the light bomber versions of the A-20 'Bostons' and the night-fighter and night-intruder versions, 'Havocs'. Later in the war the name 'Havoc' was taken over by the Americans who used it to describe the light-bomber in service with the USAAF. The excellent operational performance of all the variants of the A-20 led late in World War II to the development of the A-26 Invader which exceeded all its load carrying and performance requirements and would have been produced in vast numbers had the war not ended.
